July 2010 - Oooops

Just had a look at the Visitors Book, thought it had been quiet, with no new entries since 2008.  Then I realised that all the new entries had been pointing towards an out of date email address for the Club.  Apologies to anyone who has tried to submit a Visitors Book entry over the past two years.  This has now been fixed and it is up and running again.

May 2010 - Join Doe's Angling Club

Membership:- Doe's Angling Club is open to new members.  The renewals have been done, the waiting list has been cleared, BUT - there are only about 70 places left.  Doe's Angling Club caps its membership numbers to ensure the Club waters provide excellent all year round angling.  Capping membership numbers will not make DAC the biggest or wealthiest Club, but does help to ensure members can enjoy their angling where they want when they want.

2010 Rule Book Corrections

The telephone number for the Head Bailiff, Mr Clive Blackman is 07779 983168.  On page 18, the Pike fishing season should be shown as running from September 1st 2010 to March 15th 2011.

April 2009 - Membership

Current members, please return your membership renewal form as soon as possible.  Doe's Angling Club membership became full last year for the first time in years and a membership waiting list was created.  All current members who return their renewal form by 20.04.2009 will guarantee their membership place for 2009/2010.  After that, persons on the waiting list will be sent new member application forms and following that we then open to all new membership applications.  Club membership numbers remain capped for 2009/2010 to ensure the Club waters provide excellent all year round angling.

Again, a big thank you to everyone who has already returned their Membership renewal.  The Membership Secretary processed nearly two hundred renewals over the bank holiday weekend.  As well as guaranteeing your membership, prompt renewal also helps the Club with cash flow, as most of the rents for the Club waters have to be paid early in the season.

If for any reason you have lost your renewal form or moved house and not updated the Club, please send new DL or C5 sized SAE to Membership Secretary Neil Warren.

March 2009

At February's Annual General Meeting members agreed to update the keepnet rule in respect of Carp.  No Carp, with the exception of Crucian Carp, are to be placed in keepnets.  The only exception to this will be the Club matches, which are only of 5 hour duration, where usually rules regarding the size of Carp held in keepnets will apply.  This rule has been updated to maintain and improve the condition of the Carp in Club waters.

September 2008 Update

** DOE'S ANGLING CLUB MEMBERSHIP IS NOW COMPLETELY FULL, INCLUDING HALF YEAR MEMBERSHIP **

The Club operates a strict limit on membership numbers, to ensure that the fishing remains excellent at the Club waters.  The Club wishes to thank all of last years members who renewed their membership promptly, assisting with cash flow for the Club and also ensuring their own membership place in this sought after Club.  Membership Secretary, Mr Neil Warren has commenced a waiting list for new Club members, to join in 2009,  He can be contacted on 0845 3285689.

Every Club has about one third of its membership migrate each year so it is well worth joining the waiting list.  Priority is obviously given to all membership renewals returned promptly, then the waiting list, remaining memberships will be on a first come first served basis.

July Update

One of the members has recovered a rod and reel from Twitty Fee no 1.  Has anyone reported the items missing?  Would the owner please contact the Club Secretary to arrange its return, details in the Club handbook.

June 2008 - Update

HEALTH & SAFETY - No member may enter any Club water to wade or swim.

A reminder that Health & Safety at the Club waters is EVERYBODY's personal responsibility.  A recent incident at Twitty Fee, where a member entered the water to recover their pole sections, that were lost while trying to land a fish, could so easily have entered in tragedy.  The member swam out to where the pole was, but had great difficulty getting back to the bank, until a cormorant line was cut and used as a lifeline.  If tackle is so valuable then it should be insured.  RoSPA figures for 2002 show there were 427 drownings in the UK that year, 251 were from Rivers, Canals and Lakes (50).  Some drownings have involved more that one death, e.g. where another person attempted a recue - please do not put yourself or your fellow anglers at risk.

GUEST TICKETS - On 9th June 2008, one member reported a problem with the Paypal website, in that it did not accept either their debit card or credit card, returning the error message "The credit card you have entered cannot be used for this payment. Please enter a different credit card number".

Paypal have been contacted,  completed a diagnostic and state everything is fine.  If anyone else has encountered this problem please contact the Webmaster, Doe's Angling Club at webmaster@doesac.co.uk

MATCH FISHING - The summer weights are underway with Lester Ackerman taking first place with 111lb, at Sunday's match at Twitty Fee.  Just under 800lb of fish came out of the lake between the 17 anglers, during this five hour match.  That's an average of 46lb of fish for each and every angler.  Excellent result.

May 2008 - 2nd Update

It is with deep regret that the Committee of Doe's Angling Club inform members of the death of our longstanding President, Ken Chapman.  Mr Chapman passed away after a long battle with illness.  He was one of the founder members of the Club back in 1955, and still took a great interest in Club affairs.  Our thoughts are with his wife and family at this sad time.

Member's Children Under 12

Children under 12 years of age do not need an EA rod licence to fish.  Accordingly, members may bring their children or grandchildren, under 12 years of age, to fish at Doe's Angling Club waters*.  Children under 12 must be supervised at all times, in the same swim as the member.  The only provision is that, for proper supervision, the number of children under 12 does not exceed the number of adult members supervising i.e. one member - one child under 12.

* Beeleigh - The owner of the Lower Lake will not allow Juniors on this particular water at any time.

Unhooking Mats

Members are reminded to bring and use their unhooking mats as per the Club rules.  Recent Bailiff checks have revealed that a few members had unhooking mat's, but had left them in their vehicle.

Angling Matches

The Doe's Club matches are as popular as ever, especially with some of the summer match weights now showing.  Following having to turn three members away recently from an over subscribed match.  Please guarantee your match place by booking it, with Robin Palmer (Sundays) or John Perks (Wednesdays), to avoid disappointment.

Temporary Keepnet Ban

Following a Committee Meeting on Monday 12th May 2008, it has been decided that, with immediate effect and until further notice, there will be a temporary ban on the use of keepnets at all Club waters.  This is to ensure the welfare of the fish during this heatwave and summer period.

Annual General Meeting – 2009

The date for the next D. A. C. Annual General Meeting has been set for 8th February 2009.  The usual venue has proved difficult for parking, so the venue for the February 2009 AGM is at:-  Essex County Cricket Club, The Ford County Ground, New Writtle Street, Chelmsford, Essex, CM2 OPG.

(13.05.2008)

May 2008 Update

Congratulations to John Perks for his outstanding win at the Twitty Fee match yesterday, taking 96lb of fish in 5 hours.  It was a month later last year before the 90lb+ bags started appearing.

Guest Tickets

Since the introduction of online guest tickets in 2006, a couple of members have had problems with their email.  Sometimes emails can be held on e.g. your broadband supplier's servers for some hours before being delivered.  This is no fault of Doe's A. C. but can be frustrating if you are buying a Guest Ticket at short notice.

If this happens, just log into your Paypal account and on the first page you will see the Guest Ticket purchase, under the heading of "Recent Activity".  Click on "details", this will show you the Guest Ticket and it may be printed from there.

Associate Membership

To clarify - You do not need to apply for Associate Membership if all you want to do is accompany your partner at a venue while they fish.

To reiterate - This is a NON-FISHING membership, for the parent or adult guardian of a Junior member, to supervise them whilst they fish.  Associate membership has been set at £10.  Associate members will be issued with a Club membership card and handbook.  There is no joining fee for an Associate member.

Doe's Angling Club - April Update 2008

Anglers Mail - ongoing

For those of you that are not already aware, Doe's Angling Club has been widely featured in the Anglers Mail over the last six months.  It began in October 2007 with an article on Twitty Fee, followed by the River Chelmer in January 2008.  The 1st April 2008 issue saw Roxwell in the spotlight, with the Marl Pit due to feature at the end of April beginning of May.  Beeleigh lakes are scheduled for the Summer 2008, finishing up with an article on Little Baddow Fruit Farm at the end of the year.

Membership Renewals

A big thank you to everyone so far who has returned their Membership renewal early, following the Spring newsletter.  By the 14th April we have already secured half our Membership limit for the 2008-2009 season which, as you may be aware, is capped to ensure the waters provide excellent angling.

There have already been a number of new members join the Club for the new season, which starts on the 1st May, so if you have not yet returned your form, please return it as soon as possible.  If for any reason you have lost your renewal form or moved house and not updated the Club, please send new DL or C5 sized (see below) SAE to Membership Secretary Neil Warren.

Postage

One the subject of SAE's, stamped addressed envelopes - The changes introduced by the Royal Mail on 21st August last year have led to some confusion among members, with the Club paying extra charges to receive the Membership applications/renewals and members paying extra charges to receive their Membership packs back in their own SAE.

The SAE's should be a minimum of 9” X 4” envelopes (22.0cm X 11.0cm metric), known as DL envelopes or 9" X 6" envelopes (22.9cm X 16.2cm metric), which are known as C5 envelopes.  These envelopes are also well within the remit of a standard letter and use a normal first or second class stamp.

We recommend you send your membership application, photos and payment etc to the Membership Secretary in a C5 envelope.  If anyone has the large A4 envelopes that they wish to use up, these are classed as "large letters" by the Royal Mail.  These will require the more expensive large letter first class or large letter second class stamp on them.

2nd March 2008 Update

The Barbel Society, together with the Ilford & District Piscatorial Society are holding an evening seminar on Thursday 10th April 2008 at 7.30pm.  The venue is the Rural Theatre, which is behind the Tide Mill at Battlesbridge, SS11 8TR.  Admission £4, under 16's free.  7.30pm - Slide Show, tackle and tactics by Ade Kidell followed by questions and tips.  Short break.  9.15pm - Address by Peter Reading, Research and Conservation Chairman of the Barbel Society on Barbel fishing in Essex and the feasibility of restocking the River Blackwater with Barbel.  Please contact Roy Hart 01268 768282 or info@skee-tex.co.uk for further details.

March 2008 Update

General

The Constitution, Club and Match Rules have been updated, following approval at the Club’s AGM in February.  Full details will be published in the new Club handbook.

Membership

New - £10 saving.  There is now no joining fee for Junior Members (12, 13, 14 & 15 year olds).

New – There is a new classification of membership – Intermediate Member – (16 & 17 year olds).  Intermediate membership has been set at £40.  Intermediate members will have the same rights and entitlements as an Adult club member, including Sunday match fishing and supervision of a Junior member.

New – There is a new classification of membership – Associate Member – This is a NON-FISHING membership, for the parent or adult guardian of a Junior member, to supervise them whilst they fish.  Associate membership has been set at £10.  Associate members will be issued with a Club membership card and handbook.

Updated – Concessionary membership is available to:- people with a disability who hold a “blue badge” (A badge issued under Section 35 Road Traffic Act 1991); and also to men and women who are aged 65 years or over.

Renewal – Please renew you membership as soon as possible.  Firstly, this assists the Club with cash flow, as invoices for Club waters have to be paid to the land owners at the beginning of the Season.  Secondly, Doe’s AC has a membership limit.  The last two years have seen moderate increases in membership approaching the limit set by the Committee.  This year, Doe’s AC has applied for entry into the Environment Agency’s – Where To Fish Angling Guide, potentially attracting more members to the Club, so please renew early to ensure you membership place.

Pike Fishing

The increased popularity of pike fishing at the Club’s Roxwell water has necessitated the introduction of pike fishing rules.  This is to both, inform members of the Club’s requirements in respect of tackle, pike season, etc and also to safeguard the welfare of this excellent head of pike.

Annual General Meeting – 2009

The date for the next D.A.C. Annual General Meeting has been set at 8th February 2009.  The current venue has proved difficult for parking, due to Sunday football being played at Boreham.  An alternative central Essex location is currently being sought.  Members will be advised on both the website and newsletter of the new venue.

December 2007 Update

Another year almost over and Doe's Angling Club looks in good shape to move into 2008.  The Winter Newsletter will be going out in the next two weeks bringing members up to date on Club matters.  The AGM has been listed on the Sunday match page for some time but for those that missed it :-

Annual General Meeting 2008

Doe's Angling Club Annual General Meeting starts at 11.00am on Sunday 3rd February 2008 in the Goodwin Room at Boreham Village Hall, Main Road, Boreham, Essex.  Entry to the AGM, from 10.30am, is by Club membership card as usual.  For those with Satellite Navigation the postcode is CM3 3JD.  For those of us without Sat Nav, please click HERE for a map showing the location.

September 2007 Update

Thinking about joining?  -  Act quickly, Doe's Angling Club has a fixed limit for Membership numbers.  This is to ensure that, waters are not crowded or over fished - even at weekends during holiday periods.  There are only 40 places left for this year.  This includes places for the reduced price Winter Membership, for which the application form will be published on the website at the beginning of October.

Due to a computer failure, any emails/web enquiries that were sent to the Club during August 2007 have been lost.  If you have contacted the Club during this period and have not received a reply please accept our apologies and resend your enquiry.  Online Guest Tickets are completely unaffected as these are processed, stored and retrievable through our service provider Paypal.

On the subject of online Guest Tickets, these have now caught on with record monthly sales to members during August.  Please make sure that you enter the "date you require the Guest Ticket to be valid", when making your payment.  Failure to enter the date requires me to contact you directly to clarify the date in case of a bailiff check.  Members who repeatedly fail to enter the date will be blocked from using the online service.

The warmer weather has yielded some excellent match bags.  On Wednesday 22nd August 2007 a five hour match at Twitty Fee No. 2 produced nearly 800lb of fish.  The first three had over 100lb catches - congratulations to Richard Turner on his win at 141-12-0.  Similar story at the Sunday match on 19th August, again with the first three having over 100lb match bags - congratulations to Steve Root, who took first place with 114-5-0.  (12.09.2007)

June 2007 Update

Additional Club bailiffs are required on all waters, please contact a Committee member for further details.  Bailiffs work under the direction of the Head Bailiff, Mr Bob Long, who will be able to give full guidance on the role.  ID cards are issued to Club Bailiffs.

Doe's match weights have been far in excess of some of our neighbouring Clubs especially when you consider that we only hold 5 hour matches.  Some of the Wednesday and Sunday Matches have been very well attended, almost to capacity, even on the largest waters.  To avoid disappointment, members are strongly advised to book their place at the match.  Telephone John Perks regarding Wednesday fixtures or phone Robin Palmer regarding those held on Sundays.

Finally, to help ensure our waters remain clear of trespassers, poachers, thieves and non members, the landowner at Twitty Fee will be installing an additional gate.  The gate will be positioned at the entrance to the farm and must be kept closed at all times.  Members must have their Club Membership Card with them, to present when challenged and failure to close the new gate will be a disciplinary matter.  Please help with this simple new measure to ensure our water stays secure and in top condition.

May 2007 Update

After a modest start online Guest Tickets have now caught on.  More and more members are now using this convenient 24/7/365 way of purchasing their Guest Tickets.  All you need is a credit or debit card and you can be at the water's edge with your guest fishing in a matter of minutes.

View the DAC Guest Ticket web page at www.doesac.co.uk/guestticket.htm for further details.

Maldon & Burnham Standard Wednesday 19th April 2006

"Doe's Expands"

"After weeks of negotiating Doe's Angling Club (DAC) have voted to take over the Mid Essex Angling Club (MEAC).  Talks have been on-going with Adrian Fisk, the Chairman of MEAC, and a suitable agreement has been made with DAC.  Although MEAC is not a large Club, it boasts an excellent still water at Roxwell and a good stretch of the River Chelmer near Broomfield.  These venues will be taken on by DAC.  Existing members of MEAC have been invited to contact Neil Warren (Membership Secretary of DAC) to take up membership with DAC.  This takeover now gives DAC another excellent still water to add to its already envious venues, among them Twitty Fee and Beeleigh Lakes.  Doe's Angling Club has always been a vibrant and competitive club and with these latest moves hope to stay that way."

*Adrian Fisk joins the Committee of Doe's Angling Club.*  (20.04.06)
